Fabbbbbuloussss

That's what today was, fabulous! Productive? No. Did I actually accomplish anything? No. Were clothes washed and dried? Absolutely NO. :) I DID have a great day though and it's been a while since I really did have a good day!

I did call 'Chrissy' and ask her for a ran and then she kind of flaked on me... Oh well, tomorrow for sure! I didn't sleep all day (or workout...) I did get to hang out with one of my best friends and I also went out to dinner with my mamma and it was nummy. I took my brother out for lunch (McDonalds) but I stayed low cal with 4 pc. chicken nuggets at 170 cal. so that's not too bad. I called work and was put off on finding out my schedule :( no bueno. I also made an appointment for getting my hoo-ha waxed. I've never done it but I'm eager (and nervous)!

On the food front I ate McDonald's (the 4pc. nuggets), an english muffin with jam AND butter :/. For dinner I had my absolute favorite food ever! Spaghetti carbonera! So delicious! Afterwards I had a really, really yummy oatmeal cookie with m&m's and chocolate chips - best combination ever!

Today was a great day and now I just need to try to get some sleep and get my body off of this night/day flip flop schedule. :)

Behind Schedule

After numerous attempts at writing my morning/pre-work/goal blog I lost my battle to the internet. My internet connection, lately, has been spotty at best even stealing it from my neighbors hasn't remedied my situation. Needless to say frustration has ensued.

In other news yesterday was almost South Beach-a-licious although I did eat a hamburger bun and strawberries (and chocolate!). Last night at work I went bananers I at TWO mini bags of Lays, a Nutrigrain bar, and a Hershey bar with almonds. No bueno :(. I DID resist temptation though. All morning at work all I could think about was the delicious McDonald's breakfast sandwich I was gonna get and then I my way home I didn't make any stops!!!! I am sooooo extremely proud of myself it's ridiculous because I LOVE fast food breakfast sandwiches actually breakfast sandwiches of all kinds!

Before my crazy splurge at work I did in fact have a delicious and nutritious meal (except for the bread...)

  • DELICIOUS chili lime chicken burger from Trader Joe's - SO GOOD
  • yummy green beans with almonds :)
  • Ice tea to drink (you can take the girl out of the south but you can't take the south out of the girl)
On the workout front I went to a Zumba class last night which was fun and fabulous and I loved it! Also I saw this one girl, lets call her Chrissy, that I went to high school with and I had a really awkward interaction with her. About a month ago she saw me leaving the gym and randomly asked if I would want to go running with her. Now, this wouldn't be weird except for the fact that we played basketball together for five years, are pretty much neighbors and have never talked. She has always kind of ignored me. She graduated high school early with a full ride volleyball scholarship to a top notch school and then transfered on a same type of scholarship to an even better school and this girl asked ME to workout with HER. She really intimidates me and I am not easily intimidated. So anyways she started texting me to workout and I kept blowing her off and ignoring her but I am going to ask her to go running with me tomorrow and finally get over myself.

So that all being said today I would like to:
  • Call 'Chrissy' and ask her to go running
  • ACTUALLY do my strength training routine
  • LAUNDRY!!!!
  • Figure out work stuff
  • Not sleep all day
  • Keep it clean :)

Dum Dum De Dum Dum Dum De Dum Dum

A little bit of Rihanna to jump start my morning or should I say night... I had a great night at work no problems, troubles and no one attacked me! After a wonderful drive home belting out some "Ri-Ri" I'm already for bed. (I think I'm getting the hang of when to blog and 'spark') So last night I did eat a little bit of granola before going to work which really did hold me over and I had some strawberries with stevia. Sorry South Beach (and thighs) but I refuse to give up eating strawberries when there is only one week of the season left AND I live in the berry capital of the country.

Unfortunately yesterday I totally half-assed my 5k run meaning it turned into a 1.5 mile run. :( boo for me and strength training was me totally quitting after only one set of my routine. Hopefully today's workout will prove to be better! I managed to sort my laundry and pick it up off the floor so I'm one step closer to washing it! Book club was okay. We're reading "The 5000 Year Leap" and despite my high expectations for it, I don't like it. I'm leading discussion next week so we'll see how that goes...

For dinner yesterday I some super delicious chicken sautéed with barbecue sauce on top of stir fry. nom nom nom nom

Now to sleep and to stay South Beach-a-licious!

I was kissing Valentino by a crystal blue Italian stream

I started my morning with a little "Manic Monday." I ended up not going to work last night because I was really nauseated :( I slept like a rock until 11:00 and then made myself some eggs with a little bit of bacon.
I've been battling my wireless internet all morning trying to publish this blog so hopefully I win! I do have to work tonight so a long nap is in my future but I do have some goals to make
  • Laundry :(
  • 5k run
  • strength training
  • book club
  • read for book club (better get on this)
On to the gym!

Two steps forward...

Last night was my first night working nights in a while and I need still need to get the hang of when I'm going to post my "morning/goals" blog and my evening blog. So until I figure that out I'll just do a recap of everything that's happened since yesterday's blog. I went to work and had a salad there then came home and slept until three in the afternoon. Once I woke up I made my self 'lunch'
  • Trader Joe's Eggplant cutlets
  • Steamed broccoli and snap peas
  • Ketchup
I chased that down with a big glass of water and for dessert a delicious strawberry smoothie

It was delicious even though it wasn't South Beach friendly because of the fruit :( Oh well it was low calorie and fabulous!

Rewind!

After writing that some what negative and self-deprecating post I thought about deleting it but the I figured that I should just write a much happier one with my goals for the day/night :)
  • Eat 'South Beach' for the rest of the day
  • Make a food schedule for the rest of the week
  • Write my Trader Joe's grocery list
  • Write my workout schedule for the rest of the week
  • Go to the library
  • Be positive :)
On a different note I attempted to self spray tan! It was interesting.... The color was great very bronze and natural looking, that is where it actually stuck. My arms and legs ended up pretty streaky so I attempted some damage control by filling in the pale spots with more tanner. This salvaged the situation somewhat so my plan now is to stick to long sleeve shirts and pant (good thing Washington summers aren't very hot), let the tan fade and make an appointment for a professional spray tan. On a much happier subject I got my bangs cut yesterday! Little known fact about me as soon as I mention going to the hair dressers everyone groans because I am NEVER happy with my results when I get my hair done. I met this really beautiful and kind Vietnamese woman while volunteering at my church and she told me that she was a hair dresser. I made the appointment yesterday went in apprehensive and was very pleasantly surprised! I came home with a big, shocking smile on my face and told my mom that I loved the way she cut them (my bangs). She was so shocked. They were gorgeous and inexpensive. :) So happy! On that note I am going to end this blog feeling much more positive than when I started it!

One step forward, two steps back

Subconsciously, this must be my mantra because this is how I tend to live my life. After a tubby Thursday I had a fatty Friday as well. Only my Friday was waaaaay worse that my Friday. Quitting sugar is like quitting smoking only sucrose patches and gum aren't available. Yesterday I actually had fast food AND ice cream. I undid all of my progress. I am so fricking sick of my attitude. So I'm going to change it (of course I write this after just eating a white chocolate raspberry scone...). For real though, I am going to stay strong for the rest of the day.

Today will be a true testimony to my perseverance because I am working tonight - all night. I am not going to eat ANY sugars or carbs. No chips, dips, or treats. I plan on making a menu for the rest of my week, one that I can stick to. I have some work ahead of my and I'm going to start now!

Did someone fall off the wagon...

Yesterday was an amazing day! I was productive, I was right on with my South Beach and I had TWO great workouts! Today... not so much. I ate THREE cupcakes AND a hot fudge sundae from McDonald's. I don't know what my deal was. Oh and I ate Frosted Flakes. WTF was my deal today?!? Seriously? On my to do list I did return phone calls, self spray tan (I'll know by the morning how it looks...) and I got through quite a few strength training note cards but I only did one workout - a ZUMBA class and I only drank two glasses of water. Aside from all the crap I ate I did eat an egg with morning star sausage links and a salad with sautéed shrimp on it.

I'm going to stay positive for tomorrow and accomplish everything that I want to get done. I know that I can do it, today was just a funk. On that note I'm going to hit the sack and wake up refreshed, revitalized, and ready to be healthy!

Late Start

So... despite the fact that I set my alarm clock for nine this morning it was closer to 10:30 when I actually got up. I went to bed pretty late though but regardless I must not waste my day sleeping! My goals for today are a little bit the same as yesterday but a little bit the different :)
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water
  • No cheats or treats (already broke this one...) - so keep it clean for the rest of the day
  • Get in 90 min. of cardio (at least 30 min. cardio)
  • Get in two workouts (my own and a class)
  • Call the YMCA about Rock-wall climbing
  • Copy strength training workouts on to note cards
  • Return phone calls
  • Go to the library
  • Clean kitchen
  • Start application info. spread sheet
  • Self :) spray tan
This list has a lot on it but I plan to finish or at least start everything. Ready? Go!

Check Check Check

So I started out my morning with a set of goals:
  • Drink at least 8 oz of water today: CHECK (I managed 9)
  • Get in 90 min. of exercise (30 of cardio - at least): CHECK
  • No treats or cheats today: the cupcakes conquered AGAIN I ate two :(
  • Get in two workouts (my own and a class): CHECK - Pilates class and 5k run at 11 min. pace (avg)
  • (Self) spray tan
  • Clean the bathroom: CHECK
  • Organize desk: CHECK
  • Clean kitchen: CHECK
  • Close accounts at bank numero one and transfer monies to bank numero dos: CHECK
I completed all of them but two! Unfortunately I really hate the fact that I ate the two cupcakes :( I was in the midst of cleaning my desk (which was a MESS) and I heard the cupcakes calling my name from down the stairs and I ate one and then another. Thank god my whatever self-control I have left kicked in and I only ate two! After that I went back up the stairs and secluded myself with my desk and the mass of papers its drawers have acquired over the years. After completely going through and organizing important documents as well as recycling everything I don't need anymore. It's so refreshing to get that done! I even vacuumed my carpet because I was on such a cleaning high. I had time to clean the kitchen and bathroom just before I headed out to Pilates. I love my Wednesday night Pilates class. The teacher is great! She's so nice and I get a great ab workout but more importantly I get to stretch, something I don't do often enough.

Side note: I have ZERO flexibility. One of my biggest fitness goals is to become more flexible. A couple months ago I started trying to stretch everyday for fifteen minutes and I can actually touch my toes on my right leg! (That shows how not flexible I am...) I stopped a couple weeks ago (I don't know why either). I'm going to start again though, it's a great practice :)

I came home super relaxed and happy looking forward to going to bed and reading blogs but then I got in a fight with my mother (a huge downside of coming home from college for the summer is fight with parents) and was left feeling super unsettled. At about 9:30 I decided to go to the gym and run in order to avoid eating more cupcakes. My intention was to only run 30 min but there was a 5k option on the treadmill so I did that instead. I usually start out running really slow like 4.7 mph the max out at 5.6 but today I ran one mile at a 12:00 min pace then steadily climbed higher until I finished running a 9:50 min mile pace, which is a bid deal for me.

On to 'food' blog portion (haha pun!):
  • Egg with broccoli, salt, pepper, and a leetle bit of cheese
  • 2 morning star 'sausage' links
  • Broccoli + sugar snap peas + mushrooms + chicken + soy sauce + hummus = nom!
  • (old) coffee, almond milk, and stevia - How I like to start my day (x 2)
Now I'm sitting in bed post shower. My skin is covered in happy juice aka baby oil. It's a weekly ritual of mine to, after a shower, rub baby oil all over and then sleep in leggings and a long sleeve tee, it really keeps my skin moisturized! Hopefully tomorrow will be as productive as today (sans cupcakes) :)

Getting up on the right side of bed... everyday!

I decided that I'm going to start writing a morning post as well as an evening post. I know it seems a little late for a morning post seeing as it's 1:30 in the pm on good ol' pacific time but I did get up before noon today! This is a big deal because on days when I don't get up at 5 am getting up pre-afternoon is huge. So in order to start my day off right (especially my work days) I'm going to blog about my goals for the day :)

Side note When I'm not in school I am a nursing assistant in an Alzheimer's ward - so that is why I hate my job so much. I work from 6:30 am till 3:00 in the afternoon for barely any money, but hey! it's a job.

Anyhoozle back to being positive. My goals for today are as follows:
  • Drink at least 8 oz of water today
  • Get in 90 min. of exercise (30 of cardio - at least)
  • No treats or cheats today (considering yesterday's cupcake debacle)
  • Get in two workouts (my own and a class)
  • (Self) spray tan :) - I'm nervous for this one but uber excited
  • Clean the bathroom (eh)
  • Organize desk (eh again)
  • Clean kitchen (double eh)
  • Close accounts at bank numero one and transfer monies to bank numero dos
Actually I already did that last one this morning but I find that putting a task that you've already completed on a to-do list makes it seem less daunting :) Onward ho! It's time to tackle some of these exciting tasks!

In My Head

It's not just a Jason Derulo song but a terrible habit. My goal for today was to NOT be in my head during my workout. I veered off my Fitness Magazine 8-week half-marathon training program for a couple of days (a week...) and decided to start back up at the beginning of week four with a 1 mile walk, 4 mile run, and another 1 mile walk (fast-paced). Well I walked the first mile - so, so, so boring. I started running the first mile at a 5.7 mph pace, which is fast for me; then all of the sudden the treadmill just shuts off! I was so mad because I had just gotten into the zone. So my hearts pounding and I'm all sweaty frantically trying to get the machine to start working again. FINALLY it starts and I'm not in the zone AT ALL, so I got off after another half mile. End result was 1 mile walked at 3.7 to 4.0 mph pace and 1.5 miles ran at 5.7 pace; kind of disappointing. After that I decided to do a Body Blast class which entitle cardio and strength training, needless to say it kicked my butt!

In other news, my food for the day...

  • Trader Joe's Organic Strawberry yogurt (so yummy)
  • 1 large egg with broccoli, pancetta bacon, salt, pepper and little bit of cheddar cheese
Lunch was amazing! I didn't really know what I was doing so I just threw a bunch of vegetables together and added soy sauce and some leftover pork.
  • 2 small mushrooms
  • 1 c. broccoli
  • 8 sugar snap peas
  • 3 oz. pork (cut into strips)
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. hummus (on the side)
  • 1/4 avocado (on the side)
Post workout I like to treat myself to something and in order to save calories I abandoned my frappuccino mix and made myself a yummy ice coffee.
  • Chilled coffee (I just use what's left over from my morning)
  • Lite vanilla almond milk
  • 1 half packet Stevia
So my South Beach is going great. I'm not eating any carbs, just chugging along and then my mom calls and asks me to make cupcakes for her employees. Not to toot my own horn but I make great cupcakes, me + cupcakes = it's going down. As I'm making the dough I'm doing great, just the occasional taste and same with the icing. I left the house before it they were cooked to avoid the delicious aroma and went to dinner with a friend. Now this friend is super skinny (naturally) and eats like crap so going to dinner with her is always a trial. Every time I've gone out with her since starting to diet I always cheat but not this time. We went for Thai food and I had garlic chicken with broccoli and Thai soy sauce, so yummy! I didn't one grain of rice, not one noodle, and not one dumpling and then I came home and ate four, yes four, cupcakes. They were delicious but so not worth it. Tomorrow I will be recovering from a sugar coma and body blast, ugh. Nevertheless I will workout hard tomorrow and eat clean :)

Recap

So I originally started blogging about losing weight sometime in the middle of May on my other blog, The Eclectic Life. After a few postings I decided I wanted to create a blog dedicated only to fitness, food, and lifestyle. I never considered myself to a 'blogger' but sometime during my last year, while putting off research papers and lab write-ups, I began subscribing to YouTube channels and this quickly escalated to following a few select blogs. Once I returned home from college I started a training for a half marathon and I wanted to start following running blogs; running blogs soon turned into weight-loss blogs, fitness and food blogs. So I decided to start my own blog. What can keep me more accountable than publicizing my weight weekly?

Today I started my day very late. I didn't get up until around 1:00 in the afternoon and I would be lying if I said I didn't love getting up way after the sun ( I normally get up at 5:00 am on a work day). I made myself a delicious South Beach breakfast. (sorry for the less than perfect pic).

  • egg w/ salt and pepper and broccoli florets
  • 2 Morning Star sausage links
  • 1 Trader Joe's Organic yogurt in strawberry (only 12 grams of sugar)
After 'brunch' I tootled around the house for an hour then decided to hit the gym. I struggled so much!!! It's been a week since I've gone to workout and I only managed to run .8 of a mile. Last week I was up to five miles on the treadmill. I think that I am just so in my head that I can't get out! Goal for tomorrow's workout = get out of my own head and just listen to my body. After my 'workout' I treated myself to a homemade frappuccino.

  • 2 scoops of frappuccino mix (I buy mine from Cost Co)
  • 3 oz. of cold coffee
  • 3 oz. of Vanilla Almond Milk (I use the lite kind)
  • 12 oz. of ice
  • 1 tbsp. fat-free Cool Whip
After my delicious treat I did more house stuff - cleaning the kitchen, folding laundry, and all that fun stuff. One of my girlfriends came over and we decided to take some old clothes to Goodwill and then stop at Barnes and Noble. I snacked on snap peas and almonds then ended my day with a great dinner on the patio.

  • 1 grilled pork chop marinated in fat free Italian salad dressing
  • steamed broccoli
  • Romaine heart salad with avocado and Trader Joe's spicy ranch dressing.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better on the workout front and the only cheating I did today was a little piece of dark chocolate :). Now to finish the night with the latest issue of Shape!

The Beginning of a Journey

I am going to embark on a journey, not one of many travels and exotic adventures, but of perseverance and determination. I going to take a weight loss expedition. I have spent my whole life slightly overweight coasting between chubby and chunky. One boyfriend, a terrible job, and a turbulent year later the numbers looking up at me from the scale stunned me. I was down right fat. Not fishing for compliments fat, or body image issues fat but "I don't even know what my face shape is" fat, wearing double digit clothing fat! (you get the picture) When did I become 173 lbs.?! I was still listing my self as 140 (thinking I was being a generous) on paperwork. Even at my previous heaviest I never topped 150. I knew I had been gaining. I was beginning to fit into my mother's clothes and nothing is more self deprecating than asking your mom if you can borrow her shorts.
After a year at college I managed to get myself down to 160 (on a good day) but that is not enough for me. All my life I've wanted to be the tall toned brunette and I am finally going to make it happen.
Goals:Lose 32 lbs.Run a half-marathon, gain muscle, increase flexibility, and eat healthier
Ready? Go!
